Jeep Wranglers: Modern Day Movie Stars

There is no doubt that a Jeep Wrangler is iconic and easily recognizable. Though changing drastically throughout the years mechanically, the body and frame have stayed relatively similar throughout the years. With almost 75 years in production, Jeep Wranglers have made numerous TV and Film appearances as well as being featured in music videos and photo shoots.

Today we are looking at the Top 6 on our list!

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003)

A Jeep Rubicon made an appearance in the 2003 Tomb Raider Series. Angelina Jolie who played Lara Croft can be seen parachuting into the Jeep and then taking over the wheel in true Tomb Raider fashion. The feature of the Wrangler in the movie inspired a limited run of 1,001 Tomb Raider edition Rubicons. These Jeep’s featured 16 inch Alcoa forged aluminum wheels, Tomb Raider badging, and Mopar accessories including a light bar, riveted fender flares, tubular grille guard, diamond-plated bumper guard and more - offered only in bright silver like the movie.

Jurassic Park (1993)

Perhaps one of the most iconic Jeep’s on the list - Jurassic Park featured the 1993 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. They can be seen throughout the movie, used by Jurassic staff to get around the fictional park. The Jeep featured silver and red paint, with red wheels and half doors – helping to successfully escape a T-Rex attack. Many people have transformed their Jeep’s to have this look. Jeep '29' even made it into the 2015 reboot "Jurassic World' when two characters end up in the abandoned section of the theme park and need to use the Jeep to get to safety.

Terminator Salvation (2009)

The reboot of the classic Terminator film featured a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited – driven by main character Kyle Reese. The Jeep is seen many times through out the entire movie getting the characters where they need to go to defeat Skynet. This Wrangler featured a 3" lift kit, 35" tires, full roll bar kit with pads and push bumper. Sporting a rugged military paint job and top & doors removed - this Wrangler fit right into the post apocolyptic wasteland.

Back to the Future (1985)

A Jeep makes two brief appearances in this cult classic trilogy. First appearing in the original movie as main character Marty Mcfly grabs the back of a Jeep CJ-7 to catch a quicker ride to school on his skateboard. The second appearance was in Back to the Future Part 2 when a “futuristic” Jeep lands in the middle of main street and Marty again grabs the back of the Jeep to catch a ride. The Jeep in the Futuristic scene was actually a Jeep Wrangler YJ.

Fast & Furious 7 (2014)

A heavily armoured & customized 2015 Jeep Wrangler makes an appearance in the popular Fast & Furious Movie Series. The Jeep can be seen diving out of a military plane and miraculously landing on the road to take on the groups rivals. Custom features included “armored façade” panels, matte green paint finish, fender flares, custom rock rails, a custom front bumper with integrated grille guard and a MOPAR 6” lift kit.

Interstellar (2014)

In this mind bending movie, a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited makes a few appearances. The Jeep is featured driving around a desolate country setting as a group of astronauts prepare to travel into space to find a new habitable substitute for a dying earth. Let's hope that if they find that earth - the Jeep's can go with them!

It is plain to see through the diversity of these movies that a Jeep Wrangler is capable of taking on difficult terrain in any setting. From a fictional Dinosaur park on the Pacific Coast or a post apocalyptic wasteland, the Jeep Wrangler holds it’s own and remains a fan favourite across generations.
